Question by MissUnderstood: Is overwriting the data on your computer the only way to really wipe deleted documents on it forever?
I recently downloaded a registry cleaner from download.com to help deleting the programs to be uninstalled for good. My computer is not running slow or anything like that but I have been installing and unistalling lots of software. After I finished my mother in law asked me about what I was doing and after I answered she told me that it doesn’t matter because the only way to really delete data is by overwriting.
Is that true?

yes its true. Uninstalled or deleted data is only marked as deleted, it’s easy to recover it, even if drive is formatted. Only overwriting can wipe the information. Forget it)

Question by smileysweetits: Can a registry cleaner mess up your computer?
I used C CLEANER. My computer runs fine. It just messes up when I try to play my games on myspace. These games are called applications on myspace and everytime I try to play them a window pops up saying internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. It has been causing me problems for a while now but ever since I used the registry cleaner it now closes and won’t let me play. Is there anything I can do to correct this?

ccleaner has a backup that it made when it cleaned you, restore the backup. and then what it did will be put back. I have mine in my documents, but it only has tracking cookies. check you back up files and reinstall them. also sounds like you have a virus , which is separate from the registry cleaner, i would run my anti spyware program if i were you. do it in the safe mode to make sure all the files are scannable. start, run, type msconfig, then go to the boot ini. select safe mode with the internet. it will boot back up in safe, then run your antivirus program. after that use the msconfig and use the first tab, select original boot. and then it will boot in normal.. you can also, check for malware by start, run, type mrt, this will check for malware that may be installed.. Good luck. any questions send me email,

Question by Amber: What is a good registry cleaner besides CCleaner?
CCleaner does NOT work on my computer, I do not know why. But I really need a free registry cleaner. Anything else besides CCleaner?
I’m getting “Cycle Redundancy Check” error when trying to install a game and everyone has suggested to download a registry cleaner. I’m currently uninstalling the game so I want to make sure all of the registry keys are gone before I re-install it. (It didn’t work last time and I think it’s because of registry keys)
Sorry that’s *Cyclic but I just usually say CRC.

no such thing as a “good” registry cleaner they are all a waste of time and dangerous with billions of computers around a cleaner cannot possibly know which registry keys are vital and which are useless, many computers O/S has been wrecked by a cleaner especially ccleaner, possibly your antivirus , firewall or malware program is stopping ccleaner running because it changes registry keys, this isn’t 1999 any more with windows 95. 98 and ME , XP, vista and 7 all do a good job maintaining the registry

Might be worth doing a clean format installation after you back up.
Also if its an old machine investing in a new harddrive could pay off

Even though your question sounds like a marketing research effort; I find CCleaner to be the safest choice. Don’t download it from anywhere other than piriform.com (CCleaner software developer) to be safe.
